Harvest gathering

ELK RAPIDS — The Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy and ISLAND will co-host a fall harvest gathering from 1-3 p.m. today, Oct. 26, at Maple Bay Farm, U.S. 31, south of Elk Rapids.

The event will include music by Angelo Meli and Dave Eichenroth, a hike to the beach, refreshments, pumpkins and nature-themed pumpkin stencils, and a look at ISLAND's new kitchen on wheels. Photo exhibit

BEULAH — A photography exhibit by Gordon Kells will close L'Chayim Delicatessen's Summer Art Series. Kells' exhibit, titled "World Travels," opens with a reception from 3-5 p.m. today, Oct. 26.

Afternoon of jazz

TRAVERSE CITY — Chateau Chantal will host an afternoon of jazz with the Jeff Haas Trio featuring bassist Ed Fedewa and drummer Fred Knapp.

The trio will perform from 3-5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at the winery, 15900 Rue de Vin on the Old Mission Peninsula. There is no cover charge. For details, call 223-4110 or email wine@chateauchantal.com.

Stobie fundraiser

SUTTONS BAY — The Leelanau County Democratic Party will sponsor a "Tricks or Treats" fundraiser on Sunday, Oct. 27, for Tom Stobie, candidate for Michigan 101st District State Representative and current superintendent of the Frankfort School District. The event will be held from 4-6 p.m. at the VI Grill, 201 St. Joseph St. For details, call 933-0586.

Writers' conference

TRAVERSE CITY — Monday, Oct. 28, is the deadline to register for "Courting the Muse: Writers Conference," a day of inspired writing, learning about writing and meeting other writers.

The conference will be held from 9 a.m.-4:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at Northwestern Michigan College's Oleson Center. Award-winning fiction writer Patricia McNair will lead the opening session and the conference will close with several writers sharing insights into options in the publication process and short readings by several presenters.
