Eighth St. The planting will take place from 9:30 a.m.-noon. For details about the project, visit www.ReLeafMichigan.org. To volunteer, make a monetary donation or for details, email info@ReLeafMichigan.org or call (800) 642-7353.

‘Novembeard’

TRAVERSE CITY — Area men are challenged to release their inner “Duck Dynasty” persona and enter United Way of Northwest Michigan’s Beard Growing Contest.

“Novembeard 2013” is a fundraiser for the 2014 Alternative Spring Break trip through Northwestern Michigan College and United Way and for Wigs for Kids.

Individuals who register for the competition should come to one of several locations at the end of October and the end of November to have “Before” and “After” photos taken. Their goal is to collect pledges for each day they don’t shave their beard. Then, during the first week of December, the public can vote with monetary donations for the beard they think is best.

For details on entering the contest and the rules, visit www.unitedwaynwmi.org and click on the “Novembeard” link.
