‘Chickadee Jamboree’

TRAVERSE CITY — Horizon Books will host a “Chickadee Jamboree” to celebrate Bill O. Smith and Charles Murphy’s newest collaboration and second Chickadee book titled “Chickadee Spirit.”

Climate activist event Saturday

TRAVERSE CITY — Local climate activist group TC 350 invites the community to join them on Saturday, Sept. 21, to “draw a line in the sand” and send a message to Governor Snyder about keeping tar sands oil out of the Great Lakes.

The rally is part of a nationwide action to raise awareness about the risks of pipeline spills and climate change. Supporters will line U.S. 31/Grandview Parkway at 3:50 p.m. For more information about the local event, visit or call Kelly Lively, 360-7048.

Healthcare reform seminar

TRAVERSE CITY — The League of Women Voters Grand Traverse Area will sponsor a free seminar on healthcare reform changes and what they mean for individuals and families.

The seminar will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, at the Traverse Area District Library, 610 Woodmere Ave. Brett Williams, Central Michigan coordinator at Michigan Consumers for Healthcare, will discuss the history of health care, how the law will impact the way people gain health care coverage, available tax credits, changes to Medicare and Medicaid and the new Marketplaces known as Healthcare Exchanges.

FRANKFORT — The Manistee Water Guardians will sponsor a free screening of the Academy Award-nominated film “Gasland” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, at the Garden Theater.

Donations will be accepted.

Craft vendors needed
