FRANKFORT — William Storrer, author of "Up North Michigan Wines by the Bay, Leelanau & Old Mission Peninsulas Explored," will be on hand to sign his newly released book from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday at Charlie’s Natural Food Market, 76 Airport Road.

"Up North Michigan Wines By The Bay" is a comprehensive look at the wine industry of Leelanau and Old Mission peninsulas including the region’s distinctive climate, wineries, wines and grapes, as well as the people who work there.

Manton Harvest Fest

MANTON — The Manton Area Harvest Festival will run from Friday through Monday.

The event opens Friday with the Midway at 6 p.m. and country and gospel music from 7 to 8:30 p.m. by the Jack Pine Pickers.

Saturday, activities start with a horseshoes tournament at 9 a.m. Festivities continue with a craft show, the midway, kids games, a talent show and more.

A pancake breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. will start the day on Sunday. Activities also include a craft show, the midway and music throughout the day.

Coffee and doughnuts will be served from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the senior center. The craft show and midway continue and there also will be a parade at 10 a.m. Other activities include a car show, lunch, a chicken barbecue, horse pulling, a lumberjack competition and music.

Labor Day picnic

NORTHPORT — The Leelanau County Democratic Party will hold its annual Labor Day Picnic on Monday.

The picnic will start at 2 p.m. at Peterson Park. Tom Stobie, superintendent of Frankfort Schools and Democratic candidate for Michigan's 101st District, will be the guest speaker. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to pass.

‘Simply Give’ match

GRAND RAPIDS — Meijer will double match every customer’s $10 Simply Give donation made from Sept. 5 through Sept. 7, in support of Hunger Action Month.

The Simply Give program runs three times a year for about 10 weeks. The fall 2013 campaign runs through Sept. 28. The program encourages customers to purchase $10 Meijer Food Pantry Donation Cards, which are then converted into Meijer gift cards and given to the local food pantry selected by the store. Throughout Double Match Days, for every $10 donation card purchase, Meijer will give $20 to the program, resulting in a total $30 donation.

Farm Market

BENZONIA — Grow Benzie will celebrate its fifth birthday with a Farmers Market on Labor Day.

Market hours are 3 to 7 p.m. at Grow Benzie, 5885 M-115. In addition to local seasonal produce, there will be bluegrass music by Awesome Distraction, face painting, storytelling, a beekeeper talk, additional vendors and a birthday celebration.

Dine out for BACN

BENZIE COUNTY — On Tuesday the community can enjoy a dinner out and help Benzie Area Christian Neighbors.

A portion of each dinner check on that date at the Bayview Grille on Main Street in Frankfort or the Brookside Inn on U.S. 31 in Beulah will benefit BACN, the largest food and clothing pantry in Benzie County.
