Free BATA rides

TRAVERSE CITY — As part of the 10th Annual Smart Commute Week, Bay Area Transportation Authority (BATA) will provide free bus rides on “Try Transit Day,” Wednesday, June 5.

Free rides will be available from 6 a.m. to 10:20 p.m. on Loop routes only. BATA also will serve its annual free breakfast at the Hall Street Transfer Station from 7 to 9 a.m. The public is welcome.

Savings program

TRAVERSE CITY — Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency (NMCAA) will host an orientation session for the Individual Development Account (IDA) Program on Wednesday, June 5.

The session will start at 5:20 p.m. at the NMCAA office, 3963 Three Mile Road. The savings program is for people with limited earned income who want to build financial assets. For details or registration, call 947-3780 or (800) 632-7334.

Farmer’s Market

ELK RAPIDS — The Elk Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce Farmer’s Market opens Friday, June 7.

Ballet Etc. concert

TRAVERSE CITY — Ballet Etc. Dance Institute students will present a wide variety of dances during the studio’s 18th annual spring concert.

River clean up

TRAVERSE CITY — The Boardman River Clean Sweep has partnered with the Boardman River Nature Center to lead volunteers in an effort to keep the Boardman River clean.

The clean up will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 8. Volunteers should meet at the Oleson Pavilion at the nature center, 1450 Cass Road. After the clean-up, an appreciation picnic will be held, along with a raffle drawing for a kayak. Raffle tickets are $2 each. For details, visit www.natureiscalling.org.
