TRAVERSE CITY — The Dennos Museum Center, 1410 College Dr., will sponsor a National Geographic Society Traveling Exhibition titled “Birds of Paradise: Avian Evolution.” A ticketed opening reception and program will be hosted Saturday, June 15.

The exhibit reveals all 39 species of New Guinea’s elusive birds-of-paradise through the ground-breaking research of photographer Tim Laman and Cornell Lab of Ornithology scientist Edwin Scholes. It will be on display June 16 through Sept. 22.

The opening reception starts at 7 p.m. and features champagne, plated hors d’oeuvres and a program by Kathryn Keane, VP of Exhibitions at National Geographic Museum, and Edwin Scholes, ornithologist at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Scholes will be available to sign the National Geographic book he and Laman produced in association with their research. Tickets are $15 for museum members, $20 for non-members. Museum hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, Thursdays until 8 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. Admission for this special exhibit is $10 for adults and $5 for children and museum members.

DAR meeting

TRAVERSE CITY — The Job Winslow Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet on Saturday, June 15. Guests are welcome.

The group will meet at 11 a.m. at the Elks Lodge, 625 Bay St., for a presentation titled “Celebrating Our Nation’s Birthday Through Food” by Chef Jim Voltz, author of three “On the Porch” cookbooks. Lunch will follow. Reservations are required; call 946-6337.

Garden club meets

ACME — Guest speakers from R. Clark & Associates will discuss landscaping basics for novice gardeners at the next meeting of the Sweetwater Evening Garden Club.

The group will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, at the East Bay Masonic Lodge. The public is welcome. For details or if planning to attend, call Pam Larkin, 938-9611.

Crafts and cars

FRANKFORT — The Frankfort Craft Fair and the Antique Vehicle & Muscle Car Show will both be held Saturday, June 15.

The craft fair will feature more than 85 booths. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Market Square Park. Food will be available on-site.

Also on Saturday, the Antique Vehicle and Muscle Car show sponsored by Crystal Lodge #270 of the Free and Accepted Masons will be held at Mineral Springs Park. Registration starts at 8 a.m. Trophies will be awarded in 18 classes.
