Senior Expo

TRAVERSE CITY — The Ideas for Life Senior Expo will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at the Grand Traverse County Civic Center.

The Expo will feature more than 100 senior service providers, educational sessions, entertainment and more. Admission is free. Visit for details.

Church carnival

TRAVERSE CITY — The Community Children’s Center will sponsor a free spring carnival 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 17, to celebrate First Congregational Church’s 150th anniversary.

The carnival will be held at the church, 6105 Center Road, and the public is invited.

Church yard sale

EMPIRE — Empire United Methodist Church will hold a yard sale on Saturday, May 18.

The sale will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, 10050 Michigan St. There will be gently used items, attic treasures, baked goods, crafts and RADA cutlery. For details, call 326-5510 or email

Remember loved ones

TRAVERSE CITY — To recognize May as the “Month of Remembering,” Michael’s Place will hold a Spring River Memorial on Monday, May 20, as a way for grieving youth and adults to remember loved ones who have died.

The event will start at 6 p.m. at Hannah Lay Park on the Boardman River near the History Center of Traverse City, 322 Sixth St. Participants can write messages on the “Grieffiti” Wall and at 6:30 p.m. release flowers into the river. Participants also will be able to place personal written messages in a fire and watch the flames carry the messages into the air.
