BELLAIRE — The first in a series of “Mushroom Forays” will be offered Saturday, May 11, at Grass River Natural Area, 6500 Alden Highway. The focus will be on morels.

Each session is from 9:30 a.m. to noon and starts with a skills “brush up.” The cost is $5 per class or $20 for the series. Registration is required; call 533-8314 or visit www.grassriver.org.

Herbs and spices

TRAVERSE CITY — Breeze Hill Greenhouse, 7230 Harry’s Road, will offer herb and spice related workshops on Thursday, May 30.

“Herbal Encore” will be held from 10 a.m. to noon with Annie Floeter and Ann Drury from upnorthfoodies.com. They will share tips and tastes along with herbal recipes. A $5 donation for the Father Fred food pantry is requested. Registration is required.

“Spice It Up” from 2 to 4 p.m. will allow participants to create a customized pot of fresh herbs for their deck or patio. The cost is $9 for a 12-inch oval or round pot or $16 for a 14-inch round pot. Registration is required.
