WSCC Convocation

SCOTTVILLE — West Shore Community College will recognize students’ academic achievements and awarding scholarships today, May 3, at 7 p.m. in the Center Stage theater in the Arts and Sciences Center. Commencement will start at 7 p.m. Friday, May 10, in the campus Recreation Center.

May Day benefit

EAST JORDAN — The 10th annual May Day benefit for the Women's Resource Center Safe Home will be hosted Saturday, May 4.

Activities take place from noon to 5 p.m. at Sacred Sparks, 5070 Mt. Bliss Road. A potluck dinner will start at 4:30. Admission is free. For details, call 536-2704 or visit www.sacredsparks.com.

Bigs garage sale

TRAVERSE CITY — The Bill Marsh Body and Paint Center on South Barlow Street will hold a garage sale Saturday, May 4, to help Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Michigan.

Art reception

TRAVERSE CITY —The work of three artists from Artcenter Traverse City will be on display in the Towsley Lobby of the City Opera House, 106 E. Front St.

The exhibit features art by Lisa Perrine Brown, Connie McKinney and Charles Perry Jones. It will open with a reception today, May 3, from 3 to 9 p.m. Exhibit hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday through May 31. For details, call 941-8082.

Art exhibit opens

TRAVERSE CITY — "A Celebration of Earth, Sky, Water and Place: Work by Jerry Gates" opens today, May 3, with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. in Rinaldo Hall, adjacent to Gallery Fifty at the Grand Traverse Commons. Farm Market opens

TRAVERSE CITY — The Sara Hardy Downtown Farmers Market opens for the season on Saturday, May 4.

Saturday market hours are 7:30 a.m. to noon in the city parking lot at Grandview Parkway and South Union Street. Wednesday markets open June 5. The hours will be 8 a.m. to noon.
