TRAVERSE CITY — Grand Traverse Pie Company will celebrate National Pie Day today with free pie.
Staff will serve up a free slice of Michigan fruit pie with any purchase at either of its two area locations. The company offers 30 varieties of hand-crafted pie, including its signature Cherry Crumb Pie, a favorite of celebrity chef Mario Batali.
Dine out for BACN
BENZIE COUNTY — Diners can enjoy a meal and help the Benzie Area Christian Neighbors on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
On that day, Dinghy’s Restaurant in Frankfort and the Thistle Pub & Grille at Crystal Mountain Resort in Thompsonville will donate a portion of each receipt to BACN.
TRAVERSE CITY — The Senior Center Network’s Traverse City location, 801 E. Front St., will offer computer and iPad classes.
Computer classes begin Wednesday, Feb. 5, with Basics from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and Word from 1-3 p.m. Classes continue on Wednesday, Feb. 19, with Internet from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and Email from 1-3 p.m. Participants may bring their laptops or use the desktop computers in the Senior Center’s computer lab. Registration and payment is required in advance. The class fee is $25 for members and $40 for non-members. A take-home manual is provided.
A series of iPad classes start Wednesday, Feb. 5, with Basic Techniques from 1-2 p.m. The series continues from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesdays with Intermediate Techniques on Feb. 12, and Advanced Techniques on Feb. 19. The series concludes with a question and answer session from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26. The cost is $5 per session for members; $8 for non-members. Participants should bring their iPads.

‘Picnic at the Opera’
TRAVERSE CITY — The Younce Guitar Duo will be the musical guest at the second Picnic at the Opera. The series continues on Wednesdays through Feb. 26.
The musical lunchtime event will be held from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at the City Opera House, 106 E. Front St. Also appearing will be Soul Step, guest visual artist Cal Boulter and poet Michael Delp. Miriam Pico and WTCM FM’s Jamie Kramer co-host the live stage show. Admission is free and guests are welcome to bring a lunch. Donations to help sustain the City Opera House are requested.
The show will be broadcast live on UpNorth TV cable channels 97 and 992 and streamed live on www.upnorthmedia.org. Recorded episodes repeat each week on the cable channels and will be available on demand at the website.
Italian Night in Leland
LELAND — The Winter Film Series at the Old Art Building, 111 Main St., opens tonight, Jan. 23, with the theme “Italian Night in Leland.”
