---- — WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg Theater is offering a doubleheader this weekend.
Medicinal Groove performs tonight starting at 9 p.m., complete with full stage, lights and dance floor. With a fan base that spans from Marquette to Kalamazoo, the Michigan band offers up a high-energy mix of electric-funk-jazz-fusion and a different set list for each show.
They have shared the stage with their funk music idols George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic. They’ve also opened for such Midwest acts as The Macpodz, Ultraviolet Hippopotamus, The Twin Cats, Galactic Sherpas, Rootstand, Funktion, FlashClash and others.
Tickets for Medicinal Groove are $5 at the door, which opens at 8 p.m.
On Saturday, Sister Wilene goes on stage at 7:30 p.m. Performing as part of The Williamsburg’s “New Horizons” concert series, the country group takes audiences back to the days when country music meant heartfelt ballads and swing songs for dancing. In addition to vintage country music, the band offers up original songs penned by band member Roger Brown.
Sister Wilene’s sound is built around lead singer and rhythm guitar player Mary Sue Wilkinson. Vocal duets feature Wilkinson and Brown’s harmonies. Completing the Sister Wilene lineup is Joe Wilson on steel guitar, bassist Kevin Gills and drummer Roger Tarczon.
Sister Wilene tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Purchase at Oryana Food Cooperative and Brilliant Books in Traverse City, in Acme at Ace Hardware or Stained Glass Cabinet or by calling 938-2181 or 941-8667. For more information, visit cateringbykellys.com.
