One-day toy drive

Traverse City — On Saturday, Dec. 8, the Salvation Army will partner with Walmart to host a "Fill the Truck" toy drive to help provide new toys and coats to local children in need this Christmas.

Starting at 9 a.m., Walmart shoppers will receive a list of suggested gifts to help fill the Salvation Army's collection bin. The collection will help provide gifts for more than 350 children this Christmas.

The Traverse City Walmart is located at 2640 Crossing Circle.

Christmas cheer

Traverse City — Christmas fun fills the Village at Grand Traverse Commons this holiday season.

Upcoming events include a Holiday Open House, 5-9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, with music by Blake Elliott & E Minor, and more.

On Friday, Dec. 14, Seth & May will perform at 7 p.m. and lead a community sing at Higher Grounds Trading Co. Admission is $10 in advance, $12 at the door and free for children 9 and younger; call 922-9009.

A St. Lucia Celebration will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, with horse-drawn carriage rides 2-5 p.m. and a Santa Lucia procession at 4 p.m. Northwind Flute Studios will perform seasonal melodies and Pleasanton Brick Oven Bakery will serve rolls.

Film project event

Traverse City — Stone Hut Studios will host a holiday party and fundraiser to kick off its upcoming film "Connected by Coffee: A Fair Trade Journey."

The film will document how fair trade practices affect the lives of small-scale coffee growers in Central America. Stone Hut Studios also created "The People and the Olive."
