Holiday concerts

Scottville — West Shore Community College's musical ensembles will be featured in four holiday performances in the college's Center Stage Theater.

The Concert Choir opens the series at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 2. The choir will also perform an Advent concert Monday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. at Scottville's Our Savior Lutheran Church. A joint concert with the United Methodist Church handbell choir on Tuesday, Dec. 11, starts at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hart.

The Wind Symphony and Chamber Winds will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12. A reception will follow with an appearance by Santa Claus.

On Thursday, Dec. 13, at 7:30 p.m., the Jazz Band will take the stage with the new Percussion Ensemble.

More holiday music takes center stage when WSCC's show choir, The Collegiates, performs at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20.

Open house

Kingsley — Everyone is invited to a Holiday Open House on Thursday, Dec. 6, hosted by the Kingsley Friends of the Library.

The event will be held from 3:30 to 7 p.m. at the library, 213 S. Brownson Ave. Activities include face painting, music by Hammer'd and Becky & Charlie Lint, food and crafts. Call 263-5484 or visit to learn more.

Dessert, concert

Manistee — The Manistee Choral Society's annual Victorian Dessert Christmas Concert is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6.

The concert at Faith Covenant Church, 475 Eighth St., will include carols and other songs of the season performed by the choir in Victorian costumes. Guests will be seated at tables decorated in Victorian seasonal decor and will be served dessert midway through the concert.

Holiday benefit

Suttons Bay — Gallery 22 will host a benefit for Leelanau Christian Neighbors.

The event will open with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at the Gallery on M-22, with music, a silent auction and door prizes. A portion of profits from sales through Sunday, Dec. 9, will be donated to LCN.


Gaylord — The Otsego County Community Foundation will host its annual Extreevaganza at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Treetops Convention Center. There will be hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar, raffles, music, silent and live auctions and more. Tickets are $65 per person and child care will be available. Christmas parade

Kalkaska — The Christmas in Kalkaska Lighted Christmas Parade will be held downtown from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7.

Annual cookie sale

Traverse City — The Old Mission Women's Club will hold its 17th Annual Christmas Cookie Sale on Saturday, Dec. 8.

The sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Peninsula Township Fire Hall #2 on Center Road. It features a variety of decorated and holiday favorites made by club members. Proceeds support local community and human services organizations.

Cookie bake sale

Traverse City — The Unity Church Christmas Cookie Bake Sale will be held at the Old Town Playhouse, 148 E. Eighth St., on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 9 a.m. to noon. Cookies will be sold by the dozen. For questions, call 946-7240.

Holiday fundraiser

Northport — A Holiday Bake Sale and Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 8, will benefit the Leelanau Children's Center.

The fundraiser, sponsored by the Best for Kids Committee, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Willowbrook Mill. It will feature baked goods, bazaar items and a Christmas Store.

Holiday craft show

Kalkaska — The Christmas in Kalkaska Holiday Craft Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Birch Street Elementary School, 309 N. Birch St.

There will be lunch, a Kids' Crafts 'n' Care Corner with $1 crafts and storytime with Mrs. Claus, and a raffle to benefit the Kalkaska High School Band and Chorus spring trip to Chicago.

Bay Film Series

Suttons Bay — The Bay Film Series continues with the Japanese drama "I Wish."

Sleigh Ride event

Traverse City — Mission Point Lighthouse and the Peninsula Community Library have teamed up to offer Christmas stories, a craft and sleigh rides.

The third annual "Sleigh Ride" will be held 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at the lighthouse. Donations will be accepted for the stories and craft. Sleigh rides are $10 per person; free for ages 5 and younger and include a climb up the lighthouse tower. Proceeds benefit the library and the lighthouse.

The Lighthouse is currently open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday through Sunday through December; admission is $5 for adults, $3 for ages 6-12. Call 645-0759 to learn more.

Cookie walk

Gaylord — Trinity Lutheran Church of Gaylord will hold a Cookie Walk and Craft Show on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the church, 1354 S. Otsego Ave.

Cookies, pies, breads, bars and candy will be sold, along with handmade crafts, used Christmas items, religious Christmas cards and the newly published Trinity Cookbook.
