For 25 years, family-owned beverage distributor H. Cox & Son has donated turkeys to its employees for the holidays. This year, they and their employees decided to in turn donate 65 turkeys to local families in need. The turkeys were distributed in partnership with the Salvation Army.
"As a local family company, we strongly believe in giving back to our community and our employees wanted to be sure families in need can enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving with turkey on their tables," said H.Cox & Son President Mark C. Ribel. "Our employees deserve all the credit for updating a long-standing company tradition that we hope can spread some cheer to families in our community."
"Local companies like H. Cox & Son are stepping up to help families in their time of need year-round and the Salvation Army is extremely glad that we have the support of local businesses that give back to our community," said Captain Daren Spencer of the Salvation Army. "The donation from H. Cox & Son will do more than just put turkeys on 65 tables. It will also encourage all of us to do our part to strengthen our community."

About 360 Traverse City area residents, including 40 breast cancer survivors, joined together in September for the American Cancer Society "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk.
The noncompetitive event united the community to honor breast cancer survivors, educate people about how to reduce their breast cancer risk and raise money to end breast cancer. Local sponsors were Merit Energy, 7&4 News, The Fox, and Grand Traverse Woman magazine.
Locally, walkers raised $45,000. Funds help the American Cancer Society provide free resources and support to women newly diagnosed with breast cancer who turn to the organization for help and support.
