Jazz house concert
TRAVERSE CITY — The Northwest MI Jazz Experience (NMJE) will host its first house concert of the 2013-14 season today, Sept. 8, at the home of NMJE member, Carol Bouskay, 9743 Bluff Trail, Williamsburg.
The 3-5:30 p.m. concert features pianist Jeff Haas, Lansing bassist Ed Fedewa, drummer John Driscoll and Grand Rapids trumpeter Chris Lawrence. Admission is $5 for NMJE members; $15 for non-members. Memberships will be available at the door. For directions or details, visit www.nmje.org.

TRAVERSE CITY — The Grand Traverse Musicale opens its fall season with music by The Accidentals and piano duets for four hands by Liz Bannister and Friend.
The Accidentals include two-time Musicale scholarship winner cellist Katie Larson and violinist Savannah Buist, accompanied by pianist Steve Larson.
The program starts at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, at the First Congregational Church, 6105 Center Road. Admission is free and the public is welcome.

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Eagles Lodge will host a 1950’s fundraiser to benefit Catholic Human Services’ Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion programs.
The Eagles will be grilling hot dogs and bratwurst and encourage attendees to dress up ‘50s style and cruise on over for the 4:30-7:30 p.m. event on Friday, Sept. 13, at the Eagles Lodge, 409 W. 14th St. Karaoke starts at 7 p.m. and there also will be a 50/50 raffle and an auction.
Walk in the woods
TRAVERSE CITY — The Newcomers Club of Grand Traverse will sponsor its first walk of the season on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The group will meet at 10:45 a.m. at Tom’s East Bay, in the northeast corner of the parking lot, to carpool to an urban preserve for an easy, level 1.5 mile hike.

YUBA — The Yuba School Reunion will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, at shelter #2 at Sayler Park.

HONOR — The Original Michigan Fiddlers Association will host a Fiddlers’ Jamboree and a pre-jamboree jam session and potluck, both at the Platte River Association Hall, 12990 Honor Highway.

The jamboree will be held from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, followed by dinner from 5-6:30 p.m. and square and round dancing from 6:30-9:30 p.m.

TRAVERSE CITY — Addiction Treatment Services will screen “The Anonymous People” on Tuesday, Sept. 17, as part of Recovery Month.
The feature-length documentary focuses on the 23 million people living in long-term recovery and includes commentary from national leaders and visionaries.
The film also features clips from the 2012 Traverse City Recovery Month event “GUTS: An Evening with Kristen Johnston,” which received one of only three international Recovery Month Awards from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
The free screening will start at 7 p.m. at the City Opera House, 106 E. Front St., and will be followed by a panel discussion.

ELLSWORTH — Front Porch Ministries will sponsor a Chuck Wagon Trail Ride fundraiser to benefit the ministry’s donation-only restaurant, The Front Porch.
The event will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, at Timber Ridge Ranch. It features cinnamon rolls in the morning, a two-hour morning ride, a chuck wagon lunch provided by The Front Porch, and a 90-minute ride back to the barn. The $55 cost includes the ride, food , a prize drawing and a T-shirt.
