Father Fred sale

TRAVERSE CITY — This year's Father Fred garage sale has a new element, an online auction, that starts today, May 7.

Father Fred's Attic features items of higher value that have been donated to the Foundation. Online bidding will be open through Tuesday, May 21. To place a bid, visit

The garage sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at the Father Fred Foundation, 826 Hastings St.

Proceeds of the auction and the garage sale are used to purchase food pantry items or provide financial help to local families in need.

Garden supporters

TRAVERSE CITY — Supporters of the Children's Learning Garden will meet Wednesday, May 8, at 7 p.m.

The group will meet at the Traverse Area District Library, 610 Woodmere Ave., to discuss the May 18 plant sale, assign work stations, explain the Tower Garden and distribute raffle tickets. For details, call 947-0422.

Lend a hand

TRAVERSE CITY — Keller Williams Realty associates invite the community to join them for the fifth annual "RED (Renew, Energize and Donate) Day" on Thursday, May 9.

The associates will spend the day working on the grounds at the Goodwill Inn on Keystone Road and sponsoring a blood drive with Michigan Blood. Interested individuals are invited to lend a hand or donate blood.

Genealogists meet

BENZONIA — Retired librarian and cemetery fanatic Al Bryant will talk about the symbolism of tombstones at the Wednesday, May 8, meeting of the Benzie Area Genealogical Society. The meeting starts at 2 p.m. at the Benzie Area Historical Museum, 6941 Traverse Ave. There is no charge and the public is invited.

Tower garden intro

TRAVERSE CITY — Nancy Kroupa will introduce the Vertical Tower Garden in a program at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at the Traverse City Chamber of Commerce. The public is invited.
