BENZIE COUNTY — Benzie County will observe the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 2. The event is sponsored by the Benzie County National Day of Prayer Task Force.

The day will start with breakfast at 7 a.m. at the Hungry Tummy Restaurant in Beulah. From noon to 1 p.m., the community is invited to participate in a time of informal prayer at the Frankfort High School flagpole, the Honor flagpole by the post office, the Lake Ann flagpole by the post office, or at the Beulah Government Center. Participants may come and go as time allows.

Church Women United

KEWADIN — Church Women United will meet on Thursday, May 2, at Kewadin United Methodist Church, 7234 Cairn Highway. Men also are welcome.

The meeting will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attendees should bring a dish to share and table service for the fellowship luncheon and donations of paper products for the Women’s Resource Center.

Breakfast series

GAYLORD — Mike Tarbutton, director of the Otsego County Parks and Recreation Department, will be the guest speaker at the next Otsego County Commission on Aging Educational Breakfast.

The breakfast program will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, May 2, in room 111-112 at the University Center of Gaylord, 80 Livingston Blvd. A $5 donation at the door is suggested. For details or reservations, call (989) 748-4068.

Treasure sale

TRAVERSE CITY — Old Mission Peninsula United Methodist Church will hold a Treasure Sale at the church.

Sale hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, May 3, and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at the church, 16426 Center Road. For details, call 223-4393.

Asian-themed benefit

TRAVERSE CITY — The Northern Michigan Cultural Center (NMCC) will host an Asian-themed benefit dinner on Saturday, May 4, featuring Shaolin Disciple Monk Shi YanXiang.

The evening features a cash bar from 6 to 7 p.m., a four-course Asian dinner at 7:30 p.m., live and silent auctions from 6 to 8:30 p.m., a presentation by Shi YanXiang and demonstrations.

Tickets are $80 each or two for $100. They are available at White Tiger Martial Arts, 545 E. Eighth St. Proceeds will help the nonprofit NMCC fund upcoming programs and a new facility.

Youth wellness

TRAVERSE CITY — The Grand Traverse Bay YMCA will offer a new session of its Youth WOW (Working on Wellness) program starting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at the Y, 3000 Racquet Club Dr.

The program is designed to help young people ages 10 to 17 adopt healthy lifestyles through nutrition education, a supervised group exercise twice a week and a YMCA membership for the family. TRAVERSE CITY — A support group for families dealing with the destructive behavior of a loved one meets at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1050 Peninsula Dr.
