Rally at Bethlehem Lutheran

TRAVERSE CITY — Bethlehem Lutheran Church invites the community to help it kick off the new church year.

Worship services start at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, and at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8. "Rally Day" will be held during the 9:15 a.m. Education Hour on Sunday, which includes cookies, coffee and conversation. The 10:30 a.m. service offers a nursery and will be followed by a light lunch.

Saving Birds celebrates

OMENA — Saving Birds Thru Habitat will celebrate 10 years of success on Saturday, Sept. 7.

The 10th anniversary party will be hosted from 2 to 4 p.m. at SBTH's Discovery Center, 5020 N. Putnam Road. It will feature music by the Northport Community Band under the tent, food and wine, special speakers, birding walks on Charter Sanctuary, a silent auction and games for all ages. Challenge Walk

ELK RAPIDS — The third annual ABC Challenge Walk to benefit the Antrim County High Tea for Breast Cancer Prevention is moving to Elk Rapids after two years at Bellaire's Shanty Creek Resort.

Stop smoking

TRAVERSE CITY — The American Lung Association will offer its Freedom From Smoking class in Traverse City.

The seven-session series starts Tuesday, Sept. 10, with "Quit Night" scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 24. Classes meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 10, 17, 24, 26 and Oct. 1, 8, and 15 at the United Way of Northwest Michigan, 521 S. Union St. A free celebration dinner will be provided at the last class.

The $150 cost includes materials and taxes. Scholarships and payment plans are available. A discount is offered for early registration and the first class is free. For details or to register, call 271-3684 or email ldanto@mac.com.
