Green Cuisine

HONOR — Food for Thought will host the 2013 Green Cuisine, a celebration of local food, living and sustainability, July 10 at its headquarters in Honor.

The 7th annual event will run from 5 to 8 p.m. Visitors will be able to sample some of the best products of local food and beverage artisans, tour Food for Thought’s organic farm and green buildings as well as socialize and learn.

Winery award

OLD MISSION — Chateau Chantal’s 2011 Proprietor’s Reserve Pinot Gris took top honors at the 2013 Los Angeles International Wine Competition in May.

The wine won Best of Class in the Pinot Grigio/Pinot Gris category, making Chateau Chantal one of only two Michigan wineries to earn a Best of Class award at the competition.

Celebrity Chef classes

LAKE LEELANAU — Italian Chef Benedetta Vitali will lead off a series of Celebrity Chef classes at Bella Fortuna North.

Vitali, considered by many to be the Alice Waters of Italy, will prepare a complete Tuscan menu each day, July 8-3. Classes run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.each afternoon, followed by a meet-and-greet at the restaurant each evening from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Classes are $100 per person and include a Prosecco toast and small plates with complementary red and white wines.

Author Carol Faenzi will present daily Lunch & Learn sessions at the restaurant, July 15-19, based on her knowledge and experience gained writing “The Stonecutter’s Aria,” a saga of her Italian immigrant grandparents. The sessions are $40 and include a three-course lunch.
