FRANKFORT — The Elizabeth Lane Oliver Center for the Arts, 132 Coast Guard Road, will host an exhibition of selected works by area artists Nancy Foster, Les Scruggs and Kathleen Waterloo.

The exhibit opens with a reception for the artists from 6 to 8 p.m. today, July 12, to coincide with the 6 to 9 p.m. annual Art Walk in downtown Frankfort. It may be viewed through Sunday, Aug. 4.

Exhibit hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. For details, visit or call 352-4151.


TRAVERSE CITY — Riverside Shakespeare Company has chosen “All’s Well That Ends Well” as its performance for its 14th season.

The performance schedule is: 7 p.m. Thursday, July 18, Old Art Building, Leland; 7 p.m. Friday, July 19, Water Wheel Park, Suttons Bay; 6 p.m. Saturday, July 20, Veteran’s Memorial Park, Elk Rapids; 6 p.m. Sunday, July 21, Lake Park, Fife Lake; 7 p.m. Thursday, July 25, Mill Pond Park, Kalkaska; and at 7 p.m. Friday, July 26, and 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 27-28, Hannah Park, Traverse City.

Attendees should bring their own seating and alternate indoor venues will be available near each performance location in case of rain. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.

Diamond Rio

BUCKLEY — Tickets are on sale for a concert on Friday, Aug. 2, by Diamond Rio.

The Grammy Award-winning country group will take the stage at 9 p.m. at the Southside Festival Grounds, 620 W. Wexford Ave. The gates open at 4 p.m. Advance tickets are $25 general admission, $50 VIP. Tickets at the gate are $35 general admission and $65 VIP. Admission is free for children ages 12 and younger.

Family movie

ALDEN — “The Secret World of Arrietty,” a remake of “The Borrowers,” will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at the Helena Township Community Center, 8751 Helena Road. Admission is free and the public is welcome. Call 331-4318 for details or if planning to attend.

Sierra Club

TRAVERSE CITY — The Sierra Club will hold an organizational meeting and also sponsor a hike.

Sierra Club Michigan Chapter staff and volunteer leaders will on hand at an organizing meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, at the Traverse Area District Library, 610 Woodmere Ave. They will explore ways local residents can get involved in helping protect the area’s natural heritage through outings, legislative and political efforts and educational programs. The meeting is free and open to the public.

On Sunday, July 21, at noon, the Sierra Club will sponsor a hike at Sand Lake Quiet Area. The two to three hour hike will wind through a portion of the Pere Marquette State Forest. There is no charge and the public is welcome. For details or reservations, contact Lorne Beatty, or (810) 632-7766.

History group meets

ELK RAPIDS — The Elk Rapids Area Historical Society’s fourth program for 2013 is “Ask The Man Who Owns One: A brief history of the Packard Motor Car Company from 1899 – 1958.”

The program will be presented by Craig Handley at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, at the new Elk Rapids Area Historical Museum, 301 Traverse St. Admission at the door is a suggested donation of $5 for adults and $2 for students 17 and younger. Children are admitted free.

GRAWN — The Blair Library Committee will sponsor a community-wide flea market from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at the Northwestern Michigan Fairgrounds on Blair Townhall Road.

Baker tech program

CADILLAC — Baker College of Cadillac will offer an advanced manufacturing technology associate degree program beginning fall quarter. Classes start Monday, Sept. 30.

Microbrew tickets

TRAVERSE CITY — Tickets are on sale for the Summer Microbrew and Music Festival scheduled for Aug. 23 and 24 at the Village at Grand Traverse Commons.
