Exhibit opens

TRAVERSE CITY — A “First Friday” opening reception will be hosted from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 5, in Rinaldo Hall, adjacent to Gallery Fifty at the Village at Grand Traverse Commons.

Otis Pottery party

EAST JORDAN — Otis Pottery will celebrate its 25th anniversary with its 16th annual open house.

The weekend of art and chamber music features pottery by David, June and Andrew Otis, and chamber music concerts by flutist Frances Shelly, cellist Elizabeth Bert and pianist Dorothy Vogel. Open house hours are 7 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 5, with a concert at 7:30 p.m.; 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, July 6, with a concert at 7:30 p.m.; and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 7, with a concert at 4 p.m.

Board overview

SUTTONS BAY — The Leelanau Independent Women for democratic Action (LIWdA) will present an overview of the boards and committees that advise the Leelanau Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, July 9.

The program starts at 4 p.m. at the Leelanau Government Center, 8527 E. Government Center Dr., and the public is welcome. New members for the advisory committees are selected in August each year and applications will be available at the presentation. For details, call 642-1391 or email

Preschool playdates

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Cooperative Preschool will host two natural playscape play dates in July.

Play dates at the preschool’s “Hilly Hollow” playground will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, July 9 and 23, at the preschool, 720 S. Elmwood Ave. A preschool board or parent member will be on hand to provide access to restrooms and a water fountain. Picnic tables are available for those who wish to bring a lunch.
