McReynolds Hall, the skilled nursing facility at Otsego Memorial Hospital in Gaylord, has received the Providigm Embracing Quality Award for 2014. It was one of only 305 nursing centers in the United States and Ontario, Canada, to receive an award in 2014.
The Embracing Quality Award winners are nursing centers that succeed in achieving high levels of quality of care and patient satisfaction in one or more of three categories: deficiency-free survey, prevention of hospital re-admissions and superior levels of customer satisfaction. McReynolds received the award for superior levels of customer satisfaction reported by both residents and their families.
Glen Lake Fire Department, in cooperation with Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Michigan, has dedicated part of its daily schedule to a routine with all department members for wellness development, setting individual goals for each firefighter/EMT.
The program has several components including daily workouts, frequent workouts in full turnout gear using a specially built structure where stair climbing with full equipment, smoke-filled rooms, repelling from a roof, and blind search and rescue drills can be realistically staged. Individual performance records are kept for each department member and a physical exam is given once a year by the department’s physician, David L. Lemak, MD.
This year, the department announced an annual award, which went to Firefighter/EMT-Paramedic Aaron Brown as the member during the 2013-14 rating period who showed the most significant improvement in personal fitness and health.
