Central Neighborhood

TRAVERSE CITY — The Central Neighborhood Association’s annual meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. today, May 21, at the History Center of Traverse City.

There will be presentations and updates on the Cherry Festival and the Traverse City Film Festival, plus election of officers and street directors. For details, call 941-8667.

GTSI hosts celebration

TRAVERSE CITY — The Grand Traverse Stewardship Initiative will host its “Spring Celebration — A Portfolio of Place-based Education Projects” on Thursday, May 22.

The GTSI program is in its fifth year of providing leadership and resources to support place-based, community-focused learning experiences for students, teachers and local community partners in the Grand Traverse region.

The celebration will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the Boardman River Nature Center, 1450 Cass Road. It opens with a video depicting several place-based projects taking place at some of the participating schools. Students, teachers, parents, community partners and the public are invited. Memorial Day service

TRAVERSE CITY — Long Lake Township will honor its veterans at a Memorial Day service on Friday, May 23.

The service starts at noon at the Linwood Cemetery on Church Road. It will feature the West Senior High School drum line, Traverse City VFW Post 2780, Fife Lake American Legion Post 219, Traverse City American Legion Post 35, bagpipe music, a welcome by the township supervisor, presentation and the raising of the American flag, an invocation and song, the Pledge of Allegiance, a guest speaker, the reading of veterans’ names, an honor guard gun salute and Taps. The public is welcome.

Breezeway garage sales

ATWOOD — The fifth annual Garage Sales Across the Breezeway will be held Friday and Saturday, May 23-24.

Participating sales and events are asked to be open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and will be held across C-48 from Atwood, Ellsworth and East Jordan to Boyne Falls. A list of sales will be available at www.ridethebreezeway.com. Flyers also will be available in the Breezeway mailbox in Atwood; at the Good Samaritan, Ellsworth; and at the Chamber of Commerce office, East Jordan.
