Mushroom foray

BELLAIRE — Grass River Natural Area will launch a series of Mushroom Forays on Saturday.

“Morels” is the topic for the first event starting at 9:30 a.m. at the natural area, 6500 Alden Highway. The series is designed to help participants develop their mushroon identification skills. The cost is $5 per person and registration is required. For details or to register, visit www.grassriver.org.

Mother’s Day Dinner

KINGSLEY — Rainbow of Hope Farm will host a Mother’s Day Dinner on Sunday.

The event will be held from noon-3 p.m., rain or shine, at the farm, 1951 County Line Road. It includes a buffet dinner, an outdoor petting zoo, and a selection of hanging plants for sale in the greenhouse. The meal is $9 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-10 and free for children ages 5 and younger. Volunteers also are needed to help during the event.

Garlic mustard hunts

TRAVERSE CITY — The Invasive Species Network will sponsor work bees to remove invasive garlic mustard from natural areas. Oryana Natural Foods Market’s Lake Street Kitchens also will cater free garlic mustard-themed meals for all work bee participants.

The Manistee County Great Garlic Mustard Hunt takes place from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday with lunch at noon. Participants should meet at Manistee United Methodist Church 387 First St. They will be removing garlic mustard from the Magoon Creek Natural Area.

The Leelanau County work bee will be held from 9 a.m.-noon on May 16, with lunch at noon. Participants should meet at the Leelanau Conservancy, 105 N. First St., Leland, to remove garlic mustard from the Clay Cliffs Natural Area.

The work bee in Benzie County will take place from 9 a.m.-noon on May 17, with lunch at noon. Participants should meet at Trinity Lutheran Church, 955 James St., Frankfort., and will be removing garlic mustard from Tank Hill and Railroad Point natural areas.
