China conference sign up

TRAVERSE CITY — General registration begins Wednesday, April 30, for the June 5-6 “China: Competitor or Partner” conference.

The conference will offer an in-depth look at the economic, political and educational and cultural connections between China and the United States. It will feature experts from Beijing, Shanghai, Washington, DC, and New York, along with local Michigan experts.

Conference attendees also may registration for an evening finale from 7-9 p.m. on June 6; and a June 7 “Real Chinese Cooking” program from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Great Lakes Culinary Institute.

Organized by the Northwestern Michigan College International Affairs Forum, the $125 conference registration fee includes the June 5 keynote opening session and all-day conference events on June 6.

Hikes and trail work day

ARCADIA — The Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy will offer wildflower hikes from 10 a.m.-noon Thursdays, May 1 and 8, at Arcadia Dunes on Scenic Highway. Contemporary collage works

TRAVERSE CITY — Cog’s Creek Gallery, 124 N. Maple St., will showcase two different approaches to contemporary collage in an exhibit titled “Test Patterns.”

The exhibit features works by Pier Wright of Northport and Jordan Scott of Evanston, Ill. It will open with a reception at 5 p.m. Friday, May 2, during the downtown Traverse City Spring Art Walk. The exhibit may be viewed through June 6. For details, call 620-0458.

Homebuyer workshop

TRAVERSE CITY — The Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency will offer a two-part homebuyer workshop.

The free workshop will meet from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Monday, May 5, and Wednesday, May 7, at the NMCAA, 3963 Three Mile Road.
