Historical photo information, provided by readers, for the April 14 image:
n The gentleman is Claire Wilder. Mr. Wilder’s daughter, Nan, and son-in-law, Dan Herman said Wilder was a conductor on the C & O railroad for 47 years. In the photo he is cleaning lanterns from the railroad switch stands. Claire’s wife, Dorothy, who just turned 97, was very pleased to see her husband’s picture in the paper. Vel Whittaker also called. She related that the trains ran behind her house on the way to Suttons Bay. Sometimes they would stop and she would give the crew cookies and brownies. She stated that Mr. Wilder was “a great man.”
Bob Woods also called in and mentioned that Wilder was on the founding committee for Camp Roy-El.
