---- — A $6,000 grant from the Oleson Foundation is enabling a network of public and private agencies to proceed with steps to operate the Northern Michigan Health Coalition. Partners in the Coalition include Centra Wellness Network, Crystal Lake Clinic, West Shore Health Center, Northern Michigan Health Services, Michigan Community Dental Clinics, Benzie-Leelanau Health Department, Michigan District 10 Health Department, Catholic Human Services and Area Agency on Aging for Northwest Michigan.
The grant also enables the NMHC to accept a $50,000 grant from Blue Cross-Blue Care Foundation, part of a $190,000 effort to develop the organizational and technology tools to operate the NMHC, which will be housed in a facility now being constructed on U.S. 31 in Manistee County’s Filer Township.
ITW Coding Products of Kalkaska led the “Live Healthy Live United 365 Wellness Challenge” with more than 5,800 points.
The Challenge, sponsored by United Way of Northwest Michigan and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, invited employers to form teams and compete over eight weeks to accumulate the most wellness points. The points were earned for healthy habits such as exercising, nutrition, volunteering and attending “Lunch and Learn” wellness sessions. The challenge ended with 18,610.55 points earned by 130 participants.
Blue Cross Blue Shield also donated $3,000 to the United Way Community Fund in the name of ITW Coding Products.
