BENZONIA — Grow Benzie will offer "Fridays with Britt" starting today, July 26, at the Grow Benzie greenhouses, 5885 M-115.

Horticulture and Greenhouse Manager Britt Uecker will give greenhouse tours, share gardening tips and answer questions from 9 a.m. to noon each Friday through the fall closing of the gardens. A lifetime of art

LELAND — Donna Johnston is downsizing more than 60 years of her art and antiques in a one-woman show at the Old Art Building, 111 Main.

Johnston and husband, Chuck Johnston, own "End of the Road Studio," where she has nurtured her lifelong interaction with the arts through drawings, watercolors, acrylics, prints, paper-making, wheel and hand-thrown pottery, batiks, fused glass and more.

"Donna's Final Big Show of Art and Antiques" will open with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, and continues from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4. A silent auction table will feature art collection pieces and antiques up for bid, with proceeds to benefit Munson Hospice House.

Roots music

TRAVERSE CITY — Kalamazoo-based Red Tail Ring will bring their brand of roots Americana music to The Filling Station, 642 Railroad Place, on Friday, Aug. 2. The duo will take the stage at 8:30 p.m. There is no cover charge.

'Surf & Murf'

TRAVERSE CITY — Cog's Creek Gallery will host "Surf & Murf," an exhibit of art inspired by water and stone created by painter Charles Murphy and jeweler Kimberly Basemore.

Murphy has created a series of beach scenes airbrushed onto handbuilt long boards and new mixed media paintings that take a bird's eye view of iconic northern Michigan beachfronts.

Bazemore has designed and built sterling silver jewelry around beach glass and beach stone for 20 years and will display contemporary metal adornments emphasizing these materials.

The exhibit opens with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at the gallery, 124 N. Maple St. It continues through Aug. 31. For details, call 620-0458 or visit http://www.cogscreek.com/.

Dougherty House event

TRAVERSE CITY — A fundraiser to benefit the restoration of the Dougherty "Mission House" will be held Saturday, Aug. 3.

The event will be hosted from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Grand Traverse Yacht Club, 13615 S. West Bay Shore Dr. Tickets are $45 each and include drinks, hearty hors d'oeuvres and music by the Traverse Wind Quartet. There also will be a silent auction and a raffle. Coins and stamps

TRAVERSE CITY — The Cherryland Coin Club will host its fifth annual Coin & Stamp Show on Saturday, Aug. 3. Show hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cherryland VFW Post #2780, 3400 Veterans Dr. Admission is free.

Short's bash

ELK RAPIDS — Short’s Brewing Company will host its fourth annual Short's Fest on Saturday, Aug. 3.

The free event from 6 to 11 p.m. will be held at Short's production brewery, 211 Industrial Park Dr. It features 20 Short's brews, food vendors, live music from Rocket 8, tours of the brewery and more. Attendees must be 21 or older.

Horse camp

KALKASKA — Charity Hill Ranch is offering a "Wrangler" summer camp for children ages 9 to 14.

Camp meets from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday, Aug. 5-8. Activities include age-appropriate horsemanship skills and riding, sheep sheering, nature hikes, crafts, friendship-building games and more.
