n Delta Kappa Gamma, Phi Chapter, recently initiated Ann Rogers as an honorary member and Vonnie Seidel as an active member. Rogers, a retired teacher, community activist, former city commissioner, environmentalist and world traveler was honored for her notable service to education and to women. Seidel is a retired administrative assistant from Kingsley Elementary School and a member of the Kingsley Friends of the Library. Also recognized were members Jan Updike, Chapter Woman of Distinction, Vickie Keegstra, Exemplary Yearbook Award from Alpha Iota State and Rita Sleeman, Exemplary Communicator for the Phi-Lings Newsletter from Alpha Iota State. Recognized for years of membership by Alpha Iota State were Gertrude Onker for 62 years and Marie Grassa for 50 years. DKG is an international society of women educators promoting professional and personal growth and community involvement.
n Baker College of Cadillac student Dan Good, of Kingsley, is one of 30 students nationwide to receive a 2013 Foundation for Surgical Technology scholarship. The $1,000 award is funded by the Michigan State Assembly of the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST). The AST scholarship encourages and rewards educational excellence in the surgical technology field. Good plans to graduate August 2013 with an associate degree in surgical technology.
