TRAVERSE CITY — The Grand Traverse Chapter of Compassionate Friends will sponsor a butterfly release on Monday, June 24.

The event will be held at 6:45 p.m. at Greilickville Harbor Park on M-22. It is designed as a chance for grieving families, siblings and friends to remember their loved ones by releasing butterflies. The public is welcome. For details, call 256-9343 or 342-9571.

TRAVERSE CITY — Gamblers Anonymous meetings are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Monday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1050 Peninsula Dr. The next meeting is Monday, June 24.

Prayer and healing

GLEN ARBOR — Rob Gilbert, a practitioner and teacher of Christian Science healing, will give a presentation titled “God and Health” on Thursday, June 27.

Gilbert has a master of theology degree from Boston University School of Theology and served as a chaplain in the U.S. Army. He retired as a lieutenant colonel. He is a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship and lives in Upland, Calif.

The free program starts at 7 p.m. at the Glen Arbor Town Hall, 6394 W. Western Ave. His talk is based on the teachings of Jesus as recorded in the Bible and as discussed in Mary Baker Eddy’s “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.” For details, call David Watt, 334-3322.

Relay for Life sale

KALEVA — A yard sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 28-29, will benefit the American Cancer Society. It will be held at 8666 Aura St. and is sponsored by the Kaleva Crusaders & Friends Relay for Life team.

Defib fundraiser

BELLAIRE — The Lions, Masons and Rotarians in Bellaire will co-host a spaghetti supper to raise money for the Sheriff’s Department defibrillators.

The meal will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 29, at the Commission on Aging dining hall. There will be entertainment and defibrillator demonstrations.

Tickets are $7 for adults, $6 for youth and senior citizens, and free for children 5 and younger. For details, call Rotarian Jill Barnard or Mason Jim Barnard, 533-8272.

Pastor retires

TRAVERSE CITY — The Rev. Thomas Mansfield will retire as pastor of First Baptist Church of Traverse City effective Sunday, June 30.

The Rev. Mansfield has served as pastor for 25 years and plans to remain in the area. A reception for him and his family will be held at the church, 244 Washington St., on June 30 immediately following the 10:30 a.m. service.

K of C donation

TRAVERSE CITY — The Knights of Columbus of the greater Grand Traverse Area, which includes Elk Rapids, Acme and Traverse City, recently presented a check for $6,425 to the Father Fred Foundation. This presentation has been an annual event for seven years and K of C donations now total $55,000.
