Traverse City Record-Eagle
---- — The Grand Traverse Pavilions Foundation received a $20,000 grant from the Art & Mary Schmuckal Family Foundation and a $2,000 grant from the Rotary Good Work Committee.
The grant from the Art & Mary Schmuckal Family Foundation will be used to provide low-income residents in assisted living with personal care. Personal care may involve a range of services including helping individuals get dressed for the day and into bed at night, helping with dining, bus transportation, and one-on-one care with certified nurse aides or universal workers.
The Rotary grant will go toward the purchase of a zero-gravity mobile arm support for rehabilitation patients. The mobile arm support (SaeboMas) is a new rehab product that will enable stroke survivors and other neurologically impaired individuals to begin task-specific training that will increase range of motion, improve strength and enhance functional independence.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Michigan has received a grant from the Hestia Women’s Giving Circle, a donor advised fund of the Charlevoix County Community Foundation.
The grant will be used to support Big Brothers Big Sisters school-based mentoring services by providing Big Sister mentors to girls at school sites in the Charlevoix and Emmett County areas, with specific focus on a new partnership with Boyne City Elementary School. Anyone interested in volunteering or enrolling a child in the program may call 946-2447 or visit www.bigsupnorth.com.
