Intro to guitar

TRAVERSE CITY — Robert Abate, a guitarist with 55 years of experience, will lead a free introduction to playing the guitar today, Nov. 9, at the Traverse Area District Library, 610 Woodmere Ave.

The session will be held from 1-3 p.m. and covers how to hold the instrument and hand placement, basic tuning and how to play a “12 Bar Blues” and the pentatonic blues scale. Take-home lesson material will be provided. For details, visit

Playground benefit

ONEKAMA — The Glenwood Restaurant will serve an all-you-can-eat breakfast fundraiser on Sunday, Nov. 10, to help fund playground equipment at Arcadia’s Township Park.

The meal will be served from 8 a.m.-noon at the restaurant, 4604 Main St., overlooking Portage Lake. The cost is $12 for adults; free for children 10 and younger. Reservations will not be taken for this event.

All proceeds including tips will be used to help buy new, universally accessible playground equipment consistent with the township’s vision for the Lake Michigan park.

Parkinson’s help

TRAVERSE CITY — The Parkinson’s Network North/PNN support group will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, to discuss what helps in the Parkinson’s journey. The meeting will be held at the Traverse City Senior Center, 801 E. Front St. For details, call 947-7389.

GOP Women

ANTRIM COUNTY — The Antrim County Republican Party and the Republican Women both will meet on Monday, Nov. 11.

The Republican Women will meet at 6 p.m. at the Blue Pelican Inn in Central Lake to elect officers. The cost for dinner is $15.

TRAVERSE CITY — Glen Chown from the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy and John Gessner from the Grand Traverse Conservation District will be the guest speakers at the Monday, Nov. 11, meeting of the Grand Traverse Humanists.
