Library fundraiser

KALKASKA — The Friends of the Kalkaska County Library will host a “Unique Antique Roadshow” fundraiser on Thursday, Oct. 24.

Appraisals will be available from 5-8 p.m. at the library, 247 S. Cedar St. Lamberston’s Gifts and Antiques of Kalkaska will donate its $5 per item appraisal service fee to the Friends of the Library for its new building fund. For details, call Marilyn Coville, 384-6032.

Dennos Art Fair

TRAVERSE CITY — The Dennos Museum’s Holiday Art Fair will open with a preview from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at the museum center, 1410 College Dr.

The art fair also will be open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25-26; and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27. The public is invited; call 995-1055.

Lyme support

TRAVERSE CITY — A Northern Michigan Lyme Disease Support Group meeting will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at Living Hope’s Chalet, 610 Three Mile Road North. For details call Judy Mallory, 269-3406, or the MLDA, (888) 784-5963.

Book group

TRAVERSE CITY — “Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead” by Sheryl Sandberg is the fall pick for the Women’s History Project Book Discussion Group.

Area women are invited to bring a sack lunch and join the discussion at noon on Friday, Oct. 25, at the History Center of Traverse City, 322 Sixth St. Dessert and beverages will be furnished. For details, contact Ann Swaney, 223-7489 or aswaney@acegroup.cc.

Changes to GED

TRAVERSE CITY — The General Educational Development (GED) test will undergo some changes beginning Jan. 2, 2014.

The new GED will be more difficult. It will require more writing and application of knowledge and also will have to be taken on a computer. A paper and pencil test will no longer be an option and the test also will cost more. Anyone who has already passed one or more of the five GED tests must finish them all by Dec. 15 or they will have to start all over with the GED 2014 tests.
