TRAVERSE CITY — Jeannette Wildman and husband Bob Downes recently spent seven months backpacking around the world and will share their story in a travelogue Thursday, March 7, at InsideOut Gallery.

The Traverse City couple will present “Seven Months Around the World” from 7 to 9 p.m. at the gallery, 229 Garland St. They will share stories, slides and advice on how to backpack on a budget. Admission is free, but a $5 donation will be accepted to support St. Boniface Hospital in Haiti.

Bargain art

TRAVERSE CITY — Cog’s Creek Gallery will donate a portion of proceeds to the Humane Society from a “Sale to Sell” March 8 and 9.

On those days, the gallery at 124 N. Maple will be filled with overstock, seconds and other work from the gallery’s 15 artists. Hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. For details, call 620-0458.

Art center celebrates women

FRANKFORT — The Elizabeth Lane Oliver Center for the Arts will celebrate women during March.

An artist reception for the “Celebrating Women” art exhibition will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 8. The exhibit of selected works by area artists will be on display through March. Following the reception, the Benzie Area Women’s History Project will screen the award-winning documentary “The Play” at 7:30 p.m. at the Garden Theatre.

For those who love dance, a preview and discussion for “Dress” will start at 7 p.m. Friday, March 15. The performance, featuring Gretchen Eichberger and guests, focuses on prominent women writers of the area and also women writers of historical significance. Admission is free and the public is welcome.

Soup dinner

LAKE LEELANAU — Lake Leelanau St. Mary School’s Business Professionals of America will hold a soup and salad dinner on Saturday, March 9, to help pay travel expenses for 15 students who are advancing to state competition.
