Northern Notes: Act of kindness reminds woman about 'pay it forward’

On Nov. 1, Marilyn DuMond of Traverse City was standing in line at Glen's Market on East Eighth Street behind a mother and her little boy who was celebrating his eighth birthday by buying a package of M & M cookies, when the little boy's mother quickly ran her credit card and told Marilyn that her groceries were paid for.

"I had forgotten about the expression 'pay it forward,' " Marilyn said. "I was so tickled because it was such a shock. I don't know who she is, but I will pay it forward, and I hope that little boy had a wonderful birthday because he and his mom did such a nice thing. We know there's a lot of bad news, but there's a lot of good too and to find the positive we just have to look for it."

Area residents in need will be the beneficiaries of a positive gesture from the AT&T Pioneers, a volunteer organization comprised of current and former AT&T employees. The organization recently delivered a semi-truck containing 7.400 pounds of food to Resurrection Life Church in conjunction with Feeding America.

The church, located at 2586 Crossing Circle, will use the food for its mobile food pantry which serves those in need and for its regular "Meals Ministry," which provides dinners for residents and the families of those in extended care at Munson Medical Center.

"AT&T shares Resurrection Life Church's commitment to strengthening the Traverse City community and improving lives," said AT&T Michigan President Jim Murray. "The church's remarkable efforts helping local residents are second to none and we are proud to support their important work."

Benzie Area Christian Neighbors send a big "shout out" of thanks to Derek Watson and everyone at Watson Motors Benzie.

During the last three days of October, a special promotion for people getting an oil change or taking a test drive at the Benzonia dealership resulted in gifts to BACN totaling $250. The money will go to support BACN's food pantry.
