Plein Art weekend

GLEN ARBOR — Glen Arbor Art Association’s Plein Art weekend begins today with a “Quick Draw” event. Artists will “Paint the Town” to capture images of Glen Arbor in just two hours. A Quick Sale will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Glen Arbor Township Hall. Admission is free.

The main event, “Plein Air Paint Out,” is held Saturday. Sixty pre-accepted painters from across the Midwest have their canvasses date-stamped and then head out to complete a painting in one day.

The artists will return to the Glen Arbor Art Association, 6031 S. Lake St., in the late afternoon to enter their work in a judged exhibit that includes a Wet Painting Sale and Reception. Admission is $10 and includes wine sampling and appetizers from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. All paintings will be sold on a first-come basis when the gong sounds at 5:45 p.m.

Spotlight on Harrietta

MESICK — The community of Harrietta takes the spotlight Saturday at the Mesick Museum, 117 Mesick Ave.

The exhibit includes a collection of vintage photos of Harrietta, notebooks and scrapbooks of information, logging camp items and more.

Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit for details.

Grits and Glamour

PESHAWBESTOWN — Tracy Lawrence headlines a country music triple-header Saturday at the Leelanau Sands Casino’s Sands Showroom.

The tour show begins at 7:30 p.m. and also features guests Lorrie Morgan and Pam Tillis.

Y Family Fun

TRAVERSE CITY — “Summer Fun Splash” is the theme for Family Fun Night today at the Grand Traverse Bay YMCA.

Event hours are 6 to 8 p.m. at the Y main facility, 3000 Racquet Club Dr. The fun includes a monster wave slide, ice slushies from Kona Ice and a dinner of summer favorites. Admission is free for Y members; $15 per family for non-members. For details, visit or call 933-9622.
