BEULAH — L'Chayim Delicatessen will host an open house Saturday, Feb. 9, during winterfest activities for students in Kristine Harvey's art class at Frankfort-Elberta School. The students' art is being showcased during February's "Hit the Wall" exhibit at the deli.

TRAVERSE CITY — The Father Fred Foundation's Frostbite Food Drive is under way and continues through Sunday, Feb. 17. In addition to collecting food, the drive also includes a $100,000 Donation Match Challenge — where donations of food and cash will be matched up to $100,000.
Donation sites are at Garfield Centre, the 800 block of South Garfield Avenue; Fox Motors, US 31 South; Family Fare, Chum's Corner; Oleson's, Three Mile and Hammond roads; and Tom's Food Market, Acme. Monetary donations also may be made at these locations and at www.fatherfred.org.

Guide to your heart
TRAVERSE CITY — Cardiologist Dino Recchia, M.D., F.A.C.C., will discuss ways to prevent and manage heart disease in a program on Monday, Feb. 11.
"An Owner's Guide for Your Heart — 2013 Edition" will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Munson Medical Center's Conference Rooms 1-3, 1105 Sixth St. Dr. Recchia will share information on the causes and treatments of heart disease.

PETOSKEY — A group of adults who have lost loved ones to suicide now meets under the sponsorship of the Suicide Prevention Workgroup from the Charlevoix-Emmet Human Services Coordinating Body.

TRAVERSE CITY — The Building Bridges with Music Quintet will present "STOP the Bullying!" workshops at Traverse City, Suttons Bay and Mancelona schools and also will give three evening performances for the community.
The quintet will perform at 7 p.m. Wednesday Feb. 13, at the Peninsula Community Library, 2699 Island View Road, in support of the community reading program featuring "100 Dresses" by Eleanor Estes.
On Thursday, Feb. 14, Jazz at the Cambria will feature Jeff Haas and the quintet in a celebration of Valentine's Day from 7 to 10 p.m. at Cambria Suites, 255 Munson Ave. There is no cover.
Haas and the quintet will give a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at The Circuit, 225 W. 14th St., as part of the "Embrace the Dream" series. Admission is free. A donation of $10 for adults and $5 for students is suggested to benefit the Bridges school programs.

BENZONIA — The Benzonia Academy Lecture Series continues Thursday, Feb. 14, with a program on the symbolism of tombstones by Al Bryant.
The lecture starts at 4 p.m. at the Benzie Area Historical Museum, 6941 Traverse Ave. Bryant, a retired librarian and a "cemetery fanatic," will discuss the hidden language on 19th Century markers.

Take the 'Plunge'
CHEBOYGAN — Cheboygan area residents are needed to plunge into Burt Lake at Hoppies Tavern Saturday, Feb. 16, to raise money for Special Olympics Michigan athletes.
Plunge registration starts at 11 a.m., followed by the parade of costumes at 12:30 p.m. and the plunge at 1 p.m. A post-plunge party and awards ceremony follow at the tavern.
