Festival of Food

TRAVERSE CITY — Meet new foodie friends, try different foods and learn new cooking skills at the Festival of Food on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Northwestern Michigan College.

Events include demonstrations by area chefs, NMC culinary instructors and local gourmet food artisans. Participants will choose from four one-hour sessions among 16 options including Gnudi Ravioli, Secret of Fresh Salsa, Vegetarian Tarts, Chocolate, Edible Art and more.

Art of veggies

TRAVERSE CITY — Munson Medical Center chef and dietitian Laura McCain, R.D., will teach a class on "The Art of Vegetable Cooking" on Thursday, Feb. 7, at the Oleson Center Kitchen on the Northwestern Michigan College campus.

Eating at least five vegetables a day can be daunting. McCain will demonstrate tricks and techniques to make it easy, including braising, roasting and quick sauteing.
