Mission trip benefit

Traverse City — The Northern Lakes Community Church youth group, the Preacher's Creatures, will host an Italian Dinner Theater to raise money for its summer mission trip to New Jersey to help with Hurricane Sandy relief.

The spaghetti dinner will be served in two seatings at 4 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at the church, 4556 Herkner Road. Gluten-free and vegetarian options will be available. Skits and musical numbers will be performed during the meal. There also will be a raffle of a blanket made by a church member. Tickets will be available during the dinners.

Dinner tickets are $15 for adults, $8 for children, with a $50 maximum per immediate family. For reservations or raffle tickets, call 935-4556.

Musical fireworks

Traverse City — Tickets are available for a special inaugural concert by the Traverse Symphony Orchestra.

"Fireworks" will combine well-known and admired orchestral favorites with artwork by some of the region's leading artisans. The concert will start at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at Interlochen Center for the Arts' Corson Auditorium, M-137.

Biblical era texts

Traverse City — Northwestern Michigan College Extended Education will offer a three-day workshop on texts of several authors that co-existed within the Biblical era and were not included in the collection of writings in the Bible.

The workshop will meet from 10 a.m. to noon starting Tuesday, Jan. 29. The cost is $59 and registration is required. For details or to register, call 995-1700 or visit www.nmc.edu/ees.

Tech Academy info

Traverse City — The Career-Tech Center Manufacturing Technology Academy will hold the first of three student/parent information nights on Tuesday, Jan. 29.

MTA is a two-year program for high school juniors and seniors that integrates classes in science, mathematics, economics and English around the theme of manufacturing. The information night will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Northwestern Michigan College Parsons-Stulen Building, 2600 Aero Park Dr.
