Harvest Festival

BELLAIRE — The Bellaire Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the 15th annual Harvest Festival and Scarecrow Extravaganza on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Activities take place from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. in downtown Bellaire and start with a Boy Scout pancake breakfast at the Bellaire Senior Center. New this year is a Festival Beer Tent featuring Short’s Brewing Company and live music by Levi Britton. There also will be a cross country 5K run, a heaviest pumpkin contest, arts and crafts, a flea market and farmers market. a best-dressed pet parade, and a car show.

Country dance

SUMMIT CITY — A country dance on Saturday, Sept. 28, will feature live music.

The event includes a hot dog supper at 6 p.m., followed by dancing from 7-10 p.m. at the Summit City Grange Hall, 3060 Factory St. Donations will be accepted. For details, call 263-4499.

Workshop series

LELAND — The Leland Township Library will offer a six-week series of workshops on “Preserving Your Family Treasures” with Leelanau County curator Laura Quackenbush.

Each workshop includes a brief history of the type of objects discussed, explanations of factors involved in their care, suggestions for practical applications of a curator’s best practices for home storage, and hands-on practice with items brought in by participants.

Workshops will meet from 1-3 p.m. at the library, 203 E. Cedar St. Topics and workshop dates are: Quilts and Other Textiles, Sept. 28; Wooden Objects, Oct. 12; Baskets and Quillwork-on-Birchbark, Oct. 26; Works of Art, Nov. 9; Photographs, Nov. 23; and Digital Photographs and Documents, Dec. 14.
