Funny valentine: Colin Quinn to headline Comedy Fest

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Winter Comedy Arts Festival has a valentine for its fans: Colin Quinn as its 2013 headliner.

Quinn achieved widespread fame during five years as a writer and cast member of NBC's "Saturday Night Live," including two years as its "Weekend Update" anchor. He'll appear in the opening night show on Thursday night, Feb. 14.

"We had originally asked Colin to perform Saturday night, but he had a scheduling conflict," said Comedy Festival co-founder Michael Moore via email. "So we thought, let's see if he's free to be our opening night show on Thursday. And he was."

A native of Brooklyn, Quinn began his stand-up career in New York as a regular on the comedy club circuit. He made his television debut as co-host of the MTV game show, "Remote Control."

After "Saturday Night Live," Quinn went to Comedy Central to host his own show for a few years. He also appeared in films that included "A Night at the Roxbury," "Comedian," Adam Sandler's "Grown Ups" and with Sandler and Andy Samberg in "That's My Boy." He's shooting "Grown Ups 2" this summer.

In 2010, Quinn starred in the hit Broadway show, "Colin Quinn Long Story Short," directed by Jerry Seinfeld. He received an Emmy nomination for an HBO special in 2011, and is currently working on a book.

"I saw Colin's one-man show on Broadway and it was fantastic," Moore said. "We are lucky to have him."

Comedy Festival tickets go on sale Feb. 2 at noon. For more information, visit
