'New' country artist tops Cherry Fest entertainment

TRAVERSE CITY — Academy of Country Music Awards nominee Justin Moore will top the entertainment lineup at the National Cherry Festival in July.

Moore, who is in the running for New Artist of the Year at Sunday’s televised 49th Annual ACM Awards, will perform July 11 on the Bay Side Music Stage.

Other acts booked for the July 5-12 festival include blues rockers George Thorogood and the Destroyers and the ‘90s nostalgia tour “Under the Sun” featuring Sugar Ray, Smash Mouth, Blues Traveler and Uncle Kracker.

Single tickets and eight-day passes good for general admission to all Bay Side Music concerts go on sale at 8 a.m. today.

Moore released his first single in 2008 and followed with the hits “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away,” “Bait a Hook,” “Til My Last Day” and “Point At You.” His ACM nomination earlier this year caused controversy sparked by those who felt he was too far in his career to be honored as a “new” artist.

Thorogood and the “Under the Sun Tour” are slated for July 9 and 10 respectively. The acts are known for hits like “Madison Blues,” “Move it On Over,” “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer,” “Fly,” “Walkin’ On the Sun,” “Run-Around” and “Follow Me.”

Ticket prices for Moore range from $18.50 for general admission to $40 for premium reserved seating. The Bay Side Music Pass, a pass granting admission to all of the festival’s concerts, costs $50.
