Humane Society

TRAVERSE CITY — The Cherryland Humane Society will host its annual Santa Paws/Open house event on Sunday, Dec. 1. This also marks the start of the humane society’s Tree of Lights event, Christmas merchandise sale and Christmas Pet Food Drive.

The Santa Paws/Open House will be hosted from noon-4 p.m. at the shelter, 1750 Ahlberg Road. Visitors can tour the facility, enjoy refreshments and have their pet’s picture taken with Santa Claus for a $10 donation per picture. Guests also can register for free door prizes.

The Tree of Lights event features a Christmas tree with lights in honor or memory of a pet or person. A light will be lit on the tree for each $10 donation. Donations may be sent to the Cherryland Humane Society, 1750 Ahlberg Rd., Traverse City, MI 49696.

The Christmas merchandise sale will feature items for pets and people available to purchase at the shelter, where donations of bagged, canned or boxed pet food, treats, cat litter and washable toys also will be accepted.

Holiday classes

TRAVERSE CITY — Northwestern Michigan College is offering a variety of holiday culinary and art classes.

Remaining courses include: Glass Fusion for Holiday Gifts, Dec. 3; Wine & Chocolate: The Perfect Pair, Dec. 6; Holiday Cookie Decorating (for adult and child age 9 and older), Dec. 7; Appetizers for the Holidays, Dec. 9; and Cookie Decorating with Royal Icing, Dec. 10.

Jazzy Christmas

TRAVERSE CITY — The Trillium Singers, Sashay, and the Central Christmas Combo will present a program of holiday music on Sunday, Dec. 1.

The “Jazzy Christmas” concert, featuring a cappella vocal and instrumental favorites, will start at 2 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church, 222 Cass St. A free-will offering will be taken to help support Central’s homeless outreach programs.
