Bitchin' Babes return to region with estrogen-infused musical revue

TRAVERSE CITY — The Four Bitchin’ Babes celebrate “Whine, women and song” when they present “Mid-Life Vices … A Guilt Free Musical Revue,” on Saturday, April 13, at the Dennos Museum Center in Traverse City and on Sunday, April 14, at West Shore Community College in Scottville.

“It’s by women, for women and about women, and men love it,” said Sally Fingerett, an original member of the group.

It’s also a great girls’ outing, she added.

The Babes are comprised of four accomplished, seasoned, musician-actress-comediennes who take turns in the spotlight filling in with whimsical songs and shtick.

Fingerett has been performing with the group for its entire 23-year history. Other members include Debi Smith, who has been a babe for 19 years; Deidre Flint, who joined in 2005; and newest member Marcy Marxer, who came on board last year.

Fingerett said the performance is based on their varied lives and musical backgrounds.

“We all have very different skills and gifts and our collective conscious on stage is very exciting,” she said of their performance, which has been labeled “estrogen-infused mayhem.”

“Mid-Life Vices” musically examines the lives of the Boomer generation, finding self-acceptance, grace and humor along the way. They poke fun at themselves and modern life, with songs about chocolate, Viagra, passing information on to kids, shopping, Facebook and more.

“These days it seems like we all have twice as much to do and half the time to do it in,” said Fingerett. “It’s about what life throws us.

“Deidre has a fabulous song about coming in last at a marathon and there’s another called ‘Dim the Lights,’ about romance in late age. It works because we’re honest and there’s no B.S. in it — it is what it is.”

All of the Babes sing, play instruments and take turns in the spotlight. “Mid Life Vices” is their ninth CD and the third in a trilogy that includes gal pals that brought listeners “Hormonal Imbalance … A Mood Swinging Musical Revue!” and “Diva Nation...Where Music, Laughter and Girlfriends Reign!”
