Traverse City Roller Derby hosts its annual Birthday Bash and Silent Auction with music and dancing, appetizers, a derby documentary screening and a special Toxic Cherry cocktail beginning at 6 p.m. today at InsideOut Gallery. The Northport Follies returns with skits and songs at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Northport Community Arts Center. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students at the door; children under 12 get in free.
CD release party
Miriam Picó and David Chown present a concert party in celebration of their CD release “Somewhere Only We Know” from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at InsideOut Gallery. Tickets are $10 in advance and at the door and attendees are asked to bring non-perishable food items and toiletries to benefit the Grace Episcopal Pantry and the Jubilee House.
Northwestern Michigan College students and Habitat for Humanity Grand Traverse Region Depot Neighborhood host the Habitat Home Challenge Saturday at the Grand Traverse Mall. Model houses created for the event will be displayed in a friendly competition, with entry donations helping the Depot Neighborhood affordable housing community become a reality.
Roundup Roadshow travels to Pearl’s New Orleans Kitchen today at 6 p.m. The show will feature singer-songwriter-storyteller Louan Lechler, poet Terry Wooten, country singer Sister Wilene, the band Drive South, the Longest Drive Contest and Snacktime with Pearl’s.
Autism book launch
Traverse City author Cari Noga will read from her debut novel “Sparrow Migrations” at a book launch from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Brilliant Books. Noga wrote the novel as a way to navigate the emotional turmoil that followed her son’s autism diagnosis and will donate $1.88 per hard copy sold in April to autism organizations.
