TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City native Ryan Whyte Maloney bested country music singer Cali Tucker to advance on TV’s “The Voice” singing competition.
Maloney, a former garbage man-turned-Vegas rocker, belted out “What’s Love Got To Do With It” with fellow Team Blake contestant Tucker on Tuesday’s episode of the show. Tucker is the niece of country music legend Tanya Tucker.
“I can’t believe I’m here, so I’m completely blown away,” Maloney said, after “The Voice” judge and mentor Blake Shelton pronounced him winner of the “battle round” of competition.
The 33-year-old Las Vegas musician next will appear on the show in the “Knockout Rounds.”
