Chinese film series

TRAVERSE CITY — Northwestern Michigan College’s International Affairs Forum will present four Chinese films at the State Theatre, 233 E. Front St., as a springboard to its China conference in June.

The series opens at 6 p.m. today with the 2002 award-winning thriller “Infernal Affairs.” Post-film discussion will be facilitated by Gary Howe, who lived in China and graduated from the Hopkins-Nanjing Center before returning to Traverse City.

Verse O.N.T.A.P.

TRAVERSE CITY — Bethlehem Lutheran Church will host its third Verse O.N.T.A.P. today at the Blue Tractor on South Union Street.

The event will start at 7 p.m. and will focus on the music of Johnny Cash. The neXus Band from the Presbyterian Church will play several of Cash’s songs as a springboard to discussion. All ages are welcome. For details, email Melissa Lopez,

Advance Care

TRAVERSE CITY — Munson Advance Care Planning will hold a free seminar titled “Are You Prepared to Spill the Beans” on Thursday.

The seminar will meet from 4-5:30 p.m. at Biggby Coffee, 1535 S. Division. It is an opportunity for participants to discuss individual wishes for a medical care directive should the need arise. Registration is requested; call 935-7685 or email

German speakers

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City German Speakers Club will hold its monthly Stammtisch on Thursday.

The group will meet at 7 p.m. at The Filling Station Microbrewery at the Depot, Woodmere Avenue and East Eighth Street. Anyone who speaks or wants to speak German is welcome. Membership is free.

XYZ group potluck

TRAVERSE CITY — The XYZ (Extra Years of Zest) group for adults 50 and older will meet for a potluck and program on Friday.
