Home brewing class scheduled

KALKASKA — Ben Birgy will lead a two-session class on home brewing being offered by the Kalkaska County Library, 247 S. Cedar St.

The first class deals with the actual brewing and meets from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, March 22. The second session deals with bottling and will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 2. The cost for both sessions is $10 and proceeds benefit the Friends of the Library New Building Fund. For details or registration, call the library, 258-9411.

Fine art sale benefit set

TRAVERSE CITY — Proceeds of a fine art sale will benefit the Women’s Resource Center.

Sale hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, March 22, and noon-5 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at the Women’s Resource Center Thrift Shop, 3030 U.S. 31. Original paintings, studio glass and pottery will be featured.

Cooking class to be held on Monday

BENZONIA — Grow Benzie in partnership with Michigan State University Extension will offer a “Cooking for a Crowd” class on Monday, March 24.

The focus of the free class is on how to prepare foods safely and effectively for large groups. It will meet from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Grow Benzie, 5885 M-115. Call Deb Query, 352-6157, email or visit to learn more.

Art series continues

TRAVERSE CITY — The “What is Art, Anyway” lecture series, sponsored by Artcenter Traverse City, continues on Wednesday, March 26.

The event starts at 7 p.m. at The Box, 425 Boardman Ave. It will feature a showcase sample of local performing art organizations with representatives from the Traverse Symphony Orchestra, the Traverse City Film Festival and Old Town Playhouse.

Night at the nature center

TRAVERSE CITY — Children ages 7 to 9 are invited to enjoy an overnight stay at the Boardman River Nature Center, 1450 Cass Road, during spring break.
