Senior activities

TRAVERSE CITY — The Senior Center Network will offer cross country ski lessons, guided cross-country skiing excursions and showshoe outings at Timber Ridge Resort on Hammond Road.

Cross County ski lessons start at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3. Outdoor sportsman and VASA Board member John Morris is the instructor. The classes are free, but a Timber Ridge pass is required. The Senior Center Network and Timber Ridge have partnered to offer a $35 season pass or $3 daily rate for Senior Center Network members.

Seniors will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting Jan. 2, for guided cross country skiing excursions, also led by Morris. Snowshoe outings are also being planned twice a month January through March.

Peepers program

TRAVERSE CITY — The Grand Traverse Conservation District’s Peepers preschool program returns Tuesday, Jan. 7, and continues through May 20.

Programs are held from 10-11:30 a.m. Tuesdays at the Boardman River Nature Center, 1450 Cass Road, for children ages 3 to 5 with an accompanying adult. January topics are: “Footprint Detectives” Jan. 7; “Sensing Snow” Jan. 14; “Evergreens-Forever Green” Jan. 21; and “Shadow Showdown” Jan. 28.

CNA training info

TRAVERSE CITY — Northwestern Michigan College will hold a free information session for anyone interested in an eight-week certification preparation program for prospective Certified Nurse Assistants (CNA).

The certification preparation program will give CNA students the knowledge and skills needed to take the Michigan Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation Test.

Anyone interested in the program must attend the information session from 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at NMC’s University Center on Dendrinos Drive off Cass Road. Program information and applications will be available for the next CNA training program, which runs from Jan. 22 through March 16. To register for the information session, call 995-1700.
