Family cottages

ELK RAPIDS — Cottage Law attorney and expert David Fry, co-author of “Saving the Family Cottage,” will discuss ways to secure family cottages for future generations in a program on Saturday, June 15.

The program starts at 10:30 a.m. at the Elk Rapids Village Hall. It is sponsored by the Elk Rapids Public Library. For details or reservations, call 264-9979.


Bake sale fundraiser

TRAVERSE CITY — On Saturday and Sunday, June 15-16, there will be “24 Hours of Bake Sale” to benefit the 2014 Polar Plunge, which raises money for Special Olympics Michigan. The sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day at the Traverse City Wal-Mart.


Roller derby

TRAVERSE CITY — The Cherry Bombs will take on the Mix-Up Misfits and the Toxic Cherries will defend their winning home season against the Killamazoo Killa Crew on Saturday, June 15, at 6 p.m. at Howe Arena inside the Grand Traverse County Civic Center.

Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door, and free for children 10 and younger. They are available at the Ben Franklin store, Lifer Skate Shop, InsideOut Gallery, Oryana Natural Foods Market and Special fundraising activities at the bout will benefit the Women’s Resource Center.

Clean Water

SUTTONS BAY — The next meeting of the Leelanau Clean Water group will start at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 20, at the Leelanau County Government Center, 8527 E. Government Center Dr. For details, call 256-9812.


Summer reading

KALKASKA — The Kalkaska County Library, will kick off its summer reading programs on Monday, June 17.

“Dig Into Reading” for children will kick off at 1 p.m. Programs will be hosted at 11 a.m. June 25, and July 10, 17, 24, and 31. The program will close with a pool party celebration at 10 a.m. Aug. 2, at the Kaliseum.

Teens are being challenged to read for 30 hours between June 17 and Aug. 16. The summer reading program theme is “Beneath the Surface.” Teen programs include a Wii Gaming Event from 1 to 3 p.m. June 27; Recycled Crafts 1-3 p.m. July 18, and a movie and pizza from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 16 to celebrate the end of the program.
